US Military Conducts Additional Strikes on Iran
US forces conducted additional strikes against various Iranian targets for the second straight day. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on June 27 that it carried out the strikes in response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacking a Singapore-flagged cargo ship near the coast of Oman this week. CENTCOM noted that Tehran was “given a chance to honor” the ceasefire, but the strikes indicated the regime “elected not to.”
Venezuela Death Toll Tops 1,400
The death toll from this week’s devastating earthquakes in Venezuela has topped 1,400. Thousands more were injured, and tens of thousands are reported missing, authorities said. International rescue teams, relief supplies, and other global aid have begun arriving in Venezuela to support recovery efforts.
Kentucky Declares State of Emergency as 5 Dead in Floods
At least four people are dead as floods spread across Kentucky. Governor Andy Beshear (D) announced that one person died in Jackson County and three others died in Madison County. Another motorist died after being swept away by flash flooding that impacted roads, bridges, and homes. The situation could worsen as up to seven inches of rainfall are expected.
Hezbollah Rejects Israel-Lebanon Deal
Hezbollah rejected the peace framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon. In a statement released on June 27, leader Naim Qassem said the deal is “humiliating, shameful, and a surrender of sovereignty” for the Lebanese government. He also turned down the provision that connects Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon to Hezbollah’s disarmament.

Pakistan security forces on Sunday “carried out a ground operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, followed by ‘calibrated strikes’ against militant hideouts and safe havens, killing 29 fighters, officials said,” the Associated Press reports.

Thomas Issues Blistering Dissent on SCOTUS Birthright Ruling
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Tuesday authored a vociferous dissent against the Court’s ruling that birthright citizenship is absolute under the US Constitution. “The Citizenship Clause was consistently interpreted not to apply to the children of foreign temporary visitors, who were by definition not domiciled in the United States. Regardless of administration or party, the Federal Government for decades after ratification regularly denied claims to citizenship by children who were born in the United States but not domiciled here,” Thomas wrote. “The Court says that the Citizenship Clause incorporated the English feudal principle that subjects owed lifetime servitude to the King who owned the soil on which they were born, but Americans – unsurprisingly – rejected this feudal principle.”
