Trump Raises Global Tariff Rate to 15%
President Donald Trump said on February 21 that he will raise the global tariff rate to 15% – one day after the Supreme Court voted 6-3 to block the president from using emergency powers to implement tariffs on US trading partners. Trump also said on his social media platform that his administration will introduce other global taxes over the next several months.
Old Man Winter Expected to Blanket 30 Million Americans
Approximately 30 million Americans are under blizzard warnings as a severe late-winter storm is anticipated to slam into the East Coast with heavy snow and strong winds. New York City, New Jersey, and coastal areas are forecast to be the most impacted. The Big Apple, for example, could face as much as 18 inches of snow accumulation. New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill both declared a state of emergency.
Iran Students Restart Anti-Government Demonstrations
Students across several Iranian universities have resumed anti-government demonstrations, according to footage confirmed by the BBC. Protesters marched on the campus of Sharif University of Technology, a sit-in was held at a Tehran university, and a large rally took place in the northeastern part of Iran. Crowds chanted “death to the dictator” and other anti-government slogans. Pro-government groups held counterprotests.
Slovakia Threatens to Cut Electricity to Ukraine
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico said on February 21 that he has given Ukraine a two-day deadline to restart pumping Russian crude oil through its territory. If its demands are not met, Slovakia will cut the country’s electricity to Kyiv. The pipeline has been shut off for about a month, and Ukraine attributed it to damage from a Russian drone strike.
Elon Musk’s X Appeals $140 Million EU Commission Fine
Elon Musk’s social media platform X announced February 20 that it filed an appeal with the General Court of the European Union to challenge the $140 million imposed for violating the Digital Services Act. This was the first fine under the trade bloc’s 2022 law.

An armed intruder was shot and killed in the wee hours of Sunday morning after making an “unauthorized entry” into the security perimeter at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Austin Tucker Martin, 21, of North Carolina, was carrying a shotgun and a gas can when confronted by a security detail that included two Secret Service agents. When he raised his gun in a threatening manner, he was shot to death.
Josh Shapiro: November Will Be ‘National Referendum’ on Trump’s ‘Cruel Politics’
Pennsylvania Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro, a rumored possible 2028 White House candidate, says his party must paint November’s midterm elections as a “national referendum” on the “cruel policies” of the Trump administration. Massive Snowstorm Causes Power Outages Throughout Northeast

The region was grappling with slick roads and whiteout conditions,” CBS News reports.
