US Launches ‘Large-Scale’ Attacks Against ISIS Targets in Syria
The United States has launched “large-scale” attacks against ISIS targets in Syria, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on January 10. In a statement posted to X, the US military partnered with regional neighbors to carry out the strikes, representing the second time in less than a month that the United States targeted ISIS in the war-torn country.
US Prepared to Help Iranians, Trump Says
President Donald Trump said on Truth Social on January 10 that the United States is prepared to help Iranians obtain their freedom. The country has been engulfed in nationwide demonstrations for more than two weeks. Trump has suggested the United States could intervene to support protesters, applying more pressure on Iran’s regime. “Iran is looking at FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The USA stands ready to help!!!” the president said on his social media platform.
Anti-ICE Rallies Take Place in Minnesota, Across US After Fatal Shooting
Rallies occurred across the United States on January 10, including in Minneapolis, against the White House’s use of federal forces days after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a woman in self-defense. In Minneapolis, protesters carried signs supporting Renee Good, the woman shot in the head on January 7. “This weekend, people all over are coming together not just to mourn the lives lost to ICE violence, but to confront a pattern of harm that has torn families apart and terrorized our communities,” said Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible, an organizer of “ICE Out for Good Weekend of Action,” in a statement.
Machado’s Nobel Peace Prize Cannot Be Transferred to Trump: Norwegian Nobel Institute
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado’s Nobel Prize cannot be transferred to President Trump, according to the Norwegian Nobel Institute. Following President Trump’s intervention in Caracas and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, Machado suggested on Fox News this week that she would be willing to give or share her prize with Trump.
Greenland Leaders Reject Trump’s Takeover Proposal
Greenland’s party leaders coalesced around a single message: They do not want to be either Americans or Danes. Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and four party leaders released a January 9 statement expressing independence. “Greenland’s future must be decided by the Greenlandic people,” the territory’s party leaders said. “As Greenlandic party leaders, we would like to emphasize once again our wish that the United States’ contempt for our country ends.”

Trump Warns Cuba to ‘Make a Deal, Before It Is Too Late’

President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a stark warning to Cuba in the wake of his successful toppling of Venezuela’s Marxist President Nicolas Maduro. “Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of oil and money from Venezuela. In return, Cuba provided ‘Security Services’ for the last two Venezuelan dictators, but not anymore,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “Most of those Cubans are dead from last week’s USA attack, and Venezuela doesn’t need protection anymore from the thugs and extortionists who held them hostage for so many years. Venezuela now has the United States of America, the most powerful military in the world (by far!), to protect them, and protect them we will. There will be no more oil or money going to Cuba – zero. I strongly suggest they make a deal, before it is too late.”

Rights Group: Over 500 Dead in Iran Demonstration Crackdown
The turmoil in Iran appears to be escalating. “Unrest in Iran has killed more than 500 people, a rights group said on Sunday, as Tehran threatened to target US military bases if President Donald Trump carries out his renewed threats to intervene on behalf of protesters,” Reuters reports. “According to its latest figures – from activists inside and outside Iran – US-based rights group HRANA said it had verified the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 security personnel, with more than 10,600 people arrested in two weeks of unrest,” the wire service details. “Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned Washington against ‘a miscalculation’” in any response. “‘Let us be clear: in the case of an attack on Iran, the occupied territories (Israel) as well as all US bases and ships will be our legitimate target,’ said Qalibaf, a former commander in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards.”

Trump Announces 25% Tariff on Nations Doing Business With Iran
President Donald Trump on Monday announced a 25% tariff on nations doing business with Iran as he contemplates possible military action against the regime amid its violent crackdown on demonstrations. “Effective immediately, any country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America. This order is final and conclusive,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi told Al Jazeera he is willing to talk with the US but that his nations is prepared for war. “If Washington wants to test the military option it has tested before, we are ready for it,” Araqhchi said, stressing he hoped the US would decide instead to pursue “the wise option” of negotiation. The minister warned against “those trying to drag Washington into war in order to serve Israel’s interests.”
Mark Kelly Sues Hegseth Over Disobey Video Pension Cut
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) on Monday filed a civil lawsuit against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth seeking to prevent the Pentagon from reducing his military pension in response to his participation in a controversial November video in which he and five Democrat congressional colleagues urged armed forces members to disobey “illegal orders” from the Trump administration.

Trump to Cut All Federal Funding to Sanctuary Cities and States
President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the federal government will cease making “any payments” to so-called sanctuary cities and states across the country that protect illegal aliens. “Starting Feb. 1, we’re not making any payments to sanctuary cities or states having sanctuary cities because they do everything possible to protect criminals at the expense of American citizens,” Trump said during a speech to the Detroit Economic Club. “And it breeds fraud and crime and all of the other problems that come. So we’re not making any payment to anybody that supports sanctuary.”
House Oversight Committee to Hold Bill Clinton in Contempt of Congress
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Tuesday “announced that the [committee] will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings next week against former President Bill Clinton for defying a lawful, bipartisan congressional subpoena approved unanimously by both Republicans and Democrats,” a statement from the panel read. Clinton failed to appear before the committee for a scheduled deposition. His wife Hillary Clinton is expected to do the same today.
SCOTUS Leans Toward Backing Restrictions on Trans Student Athletes
The Supreme Court on Tuesday signaled it is likely to uphold state laws that ban transgender athletes from taking part in girls’ and women’s school sports. “There’s a harm there, and I think we can’t sweep that aside,” Justice Brett Kavanaugh said during oral arguments on the issue. Justice Samuel Alito pressed plaintiff attorney Kathleen Hartnett to define male and female.

ICE Agent Shoots Venezuelan Illegal Alien in the Leg in Minneapolis
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were reportedly attacked by men with snow shovels on Wednesday during an operation in Minneapolis. One of the assailants, a Venezuelan illegal alien, was shot in the leg by an ICE officer. The man is expected to recover.
Senate Republicans Kill War Powers Push to Limit Trump on Venezuela
Vice President JD Vance cast the deciding vote on Wednesday to break a tie as the US Senate effectively killed a war powers resolution. The measure aimed to terminate President Donald Trump’s authority to conduct military action against Venezuela without congressional approval. “Even this institution cannot stop something that isn’t happening, and that’s exactly what the resolution directs the president to do,” Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID) said before the vote was taken. “Currently there are no US forces engaged in hostilities in Venezuela.”
