Time’s Up For Switching Clocks? Congress Considers Daylight Saving

Is it a good idea to change the clocks – or is it time to decide on a timezone and keep it?

Spring forward. Fall back. Year after year, most Americans are forced to change their clocks by an hour in the spring and fall. As we set our clocks forward one hour, Daylight Saving Time (DST) provides an extra hour of sunlight to coincide with end of winter and the beginning of spring.

While the idea of changing the clocks has been around for over 100 years, more and more people are beginning to question the twice-annual ritual. The US Senate has recently passed a bill that would keep the United States on DST time all year round.

The Endurance was found after 107 years mostly intact.

Shipwrecks and sunken treasure – the stuff dreams are made of. The quest to find a ship that was lost at sea hundreds of years ago with the promise of gold and trinkets has lured many a treasure-seeker to spend their lives hunting. In November 1915, the Endurance was part of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition. The mission was to make the first land crossing of Antarctica. However, the Endurance ran into some sea-ice and sank in the Weddell Sea, part of the Antarctic coastline. The ship’s crew had to make a daring and dangerous escape using small boats, and some even on foot.

The search for the Endurance was not easy since the Weddell Sea is covered in thick sea-ice, the type that punctured the ship and caused it to sink in the first place. Read more…

Ukraine’s President Addresses Congress as War Persists

As the conflict continues, people are asking what America’s reaction should be.

As the war continues between Russia and Ukraine, peace talks have been going on but with no result so far. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky recently gave a speech to the US Congress via video link, asking for America to get more involved in the conflict. Russia began invading its neighbor almost a month ago, so what is happening in Ukraine, and what has the US response been?

As the Russian forces move westward into Ukraine, they have been firing shells – containers full of explosives – into cities around Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv. Around 1,000 Russian missiles have been fired into Ukraine, and it seems most of the damage has been caused by this shelling. According to some sources, actual soldiers haven’t advanced very far into Ukraine’s territory, due to supply problems. Read more…
