At Least Two Shot at Texas Mall, Suspect in Custody

“At least two people were shot and another was detained Saturday after authorities responded to reports of an active shooter at Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas,” Fox News reported. The Harris County Constable’s Office explained that deputies and Humble PD responded to the mall just after 6:30 p.m. local time.

Appeals Court Rules Against Trump on Mail-In Voting

The First US Circuit of Appeals on Saturday refused to lift a lower court’s injunction from June blocking President Donald Trump’s executive order on mail-in voting. After US District Judge Indira Talwani ruled against the Trump administration back in June, the DOJ requested a stay while it pursued an appeal, arguing that because government agencies had yet to finalize any actions or policies, the lawsuit was premature. The appeals court, in a 2-1 ruling, disagreed.

Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Indicted for Bribery

Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, a Democrat, was indicted on bribery charges following a months-long investigation by the state into potential campaign finance violations. Allegedly, Luke accepted contributions in 2022 while she was still a lawmaker in exchange for passing funding for COVID-19 testing sites.

At Least 21 Injured in NYC Fire

In a statement on Saturday, the New York Fire Department reported that the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Local news later reported that none suffered life-threatening injuries, though one was listed as in serious condition.
