Multiple People Shot Near Festival in Toledo, Ohio

Several people were shot near a community street festival in Toledo, Ohio. Victims were transported to medical facilities. Police have been searching for suspects after they were called to the Old West End Festival at about 5:30 p.m. EST.

160k Sign Petition Opposing Nashville Data Center

More than 160,000 people signed a petition opposing a data center next to the Nashville Zoo. The proposed site is estimated to be more than 69,000 square feet and could harm the zoo. The petition organizers warn that noise from the data center might disturb the animals and that its energy demand could strain the infrastructure, power, and water supplies.

Ukrainian Drones Attack Russia

The Russian government said on June 6 that Ukraine launched an “unprecedented attack” around St. Petersburg, the host city of the annual economic forum. Kyiv, the Kremlin said, fired off more than 140 drones, and residents have been urged to remain indoors. The extent of the damage is still being calculated, but early reports say a fire broke out at a military facility and that buildings sustained minor damage.

Outsider Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt is now poised to fall out of a runoff showdown with incumbent Democrat Mayor Karen Bass as the city continues to count mail-in ballots in a controversial process that has drawn nationwide attention. With 83% of all votes now counted, Democrat Councilwoman Nithya Raman has completely erased her Election Day deficit to Pratt and taken over second place by some 3,000 votes.

DOJ Seeks to Strip Citizenship of Foreign-Born Accused Criminals

The Justice Department on Monday announced that it is seeking to strip the citizenship of 17 foreign-born naturalized Americans accused of serious crimes such as massive fraud, sexual abuse of a minor and drug trafficking.

Federal Judge Voids Trump $100K Fee for H-1B Visas

US District Judge Leo Sorokin, a Barack Obama appointee based out of Boston, on Monday “invalidated President Donald Trump’s policy imposing a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas for high-skilled foreign workers, finding it unlawful,” CBS News reports. “Sorokin ruled in favor of a group of 20 states that challenged the new fee announced by Trump in September. The judge found that the Trump administration overstepped its authority by imposing a $100,000 tax on H-1B applications without authorization from Congress.”

Jurors in a Texas courtroom on Tuesday “found Karmelo Anthony, who fatally stabbed a teenager last year at a Frisco track meet, guilty of murder,” The Dallas Morning News reports. The case, involving a black teen and a white victim, drew national attention.
