Shots Fired Outside White House Correspondents’ Dinner
A man armed with guns and knives opened fire Saturday night during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in the lobby outside the event. The man didn’t make it to the ballroom before Secret Service agents rushed him and took him into custody. Despite shots being fired, no one was killed. Only one officer was reportedly struck, but he was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and is expected to be alright. The man was later identified as Cole Thomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California.
Trump Cancels US Visit to Pakistan for Iran Talks
President Donald Trump canceled his US representatives’ planned visit to Pakistan for the Iran peace negotiations. Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were scheduled for Islamabad to participate in talks to resolve the nine-week-old conflict. Iranian officials declined to meet with the Washington delegation.
‘Terminate’ the Filibuster, Says Trump
President Trump renewed his demand to “terminate” the filibuster to rescue the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act, which remains at an impasse in the upper chamber. In the second year of his second term in the White House, the president has made the SAVE Act his legislative priority, going so far as to demand an end to the filibuster, despite many Republicans opposing this call.

President Donald Trump on Sunday said he “wasn’t worried” as a gunman attempted to storm into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, adding that “my thought was, ‘you know, I’ve been through this before a couple of times.’”

Report: WH Orders Extra Security Checks on Immigrant Applicants
The Trump administration “is subjecting broad categories of immigrants applying for legal immigration benefits to enhanced security checks, and is pausing some cases while the changes are implemented, according to internal government documents obtained by CBS News,” the network reports.
Ex-FBI Chief Comey Indicted Over ‘8647’ Seashell Photo Post
The Justice Department on Tuesday secured a criminal indictment against former FBI director James Comey for posting a photo on Instagram in May 2025 of seashells on a beach shaped to spell out the numbers ‘8647’ in reference to President Donald Trump. Comey “knowingly and willfully [made] a threat to take the life of, and to inflict bodily harm upon, the President of the United States, in that he publicly posted a photograph on the internet social media site Instagram which depicted seashells arranged in a pattern making out ‘86 47,’ which a reasonable recipient who is familiar with the circumstances would interpret as a serious expression of an intent to do harm to the President of the United States,” Count One of the indictment reads.

The Justice Department on Tuesday announced that David Morens, a former senior aide to ex-White House COVID-era chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, has been indicted on charges of destroying and concealing records from investigations into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic.

US May Cut the Number of Troops in Germany, Says Trump
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the US may reduce the number of troops in Germany, as tensions between his administration and European leaders continue to fester. “The United States is studying and reviewing the possible reduction of troops in Germany, with a determination to be made over the next short period of time,” Trump wrote in a brief Truth Social post. “The US military has a massive presence in Germany that dates back to the aftermath of World War II and the Cold War,” CBS News notes. “More than 36,000 active duty troops were assigned to bases throughout Germany as of last December, along with nearly 1,500 reservists and 11,500 civilians, according to Defense Department figures. Japan is the only foreign country with a larger presence of US troops. Germany is also home to the headquarters of US European Command and Africa Command, and its Ramstein Air Base is a key hub for US operations.”
House Passes Senate-Approved Budget Resolution to Fund ICE
In a 215-211 party-line vote, the House approved a budget plan on Wednesday that will allow President Donald Trump to fund ICE and Border Patrol through the rest of his term without relying on Democrats. Both chambers have now adopted the resolution, but lawmakers still need to draft the funding bill for ICE and CBP. Trump reportedly wants it on his desk by June 1.
Trump Hails SCOTUS Ruling on Racial Gerrymandering
President Donald Trump praised the Supreme Court on Wednesday for striking down a Louisiana congressional map, which the Court determined was the product of unconstitutional racial gerrymandering.
