Trump Announces 10% Tariffs on Denmark, NATO Members
President Donald Trump said he will impose new tariffs on Denmark and NATO members next month as part of efforts to purchase Greenland. In a January 17 Truth Social post, the president confirmed he will introduce a 10% tariff on Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, effective February 1. The levy would then rise to 25% on June 1.

Danish leaders pushed back against President Trump’s latest tariff threats, urging European leaders to stand firm with Denmark and its control of Greenland. “Trump must not be allowed to divide us,” Danish lawmaker Pelle Dragsted said on X. “The EU must respond united and hit back hard. Go hard after the tech oligarchs in Trump’s inner circle. Enough is enough!”
Trump Says ‘It’s Time’ for Regime Change in Iran Amid Protests
President Trump thinks “it’s time” for regime change in Iran amid weeks-long demonstrations across the Middle Eastern country. In an interview with Politico on January 17, the president rebuked Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Tehran’s “use of violence” against protesters. “What he is guilty of, as the leader of a country, is the complete destruction of the country and the use of violence at levels never seen before,” the president told the publication. “In order to keep the country functioning, even though that function is a very low level, the leadership should focus on running his country properly, like I do with the United States, and not killing people by the thousands in order to keep control.”

One day after the White House established the “Gaza Board of Peace,” President Trump urged more countries to join the global initiative. The administration penned letters to various world leaders, officially inviting them to be a part of the 20-point plan to bring peace to the region, including Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and others.
