Trump Threatens Action in Nigeria Over Killing of Christians
President Trump said in a social media post on Nov. 1 that he told the Department of War to “prepare for possible action” in Nigeria over the widespread killing of Christians. As the conflict begins to gain notable attention, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu stated that his government is committed to working with the United States on a resolution. Trump, meanwhile, requested Reps. Riley Moore (R-WV) and Tom Cole (R-OK) to investigate the issue.
Canada’s PM Apologized to Donald Trump Over Reagan Tariff Ads
Canadian Prime Minister Markey Carney said he apologized to President Donald Trump. At a press conference after completing his nine-day trip to Asia, Carney said he told Ontario Premier Doug Ford that he did not think the province could share an ad featuring former President Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs from an 1987 radio address.

California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom is defending his attempts to turn President Donald Trump’s propensity for mockery of his political opponents against him, saying “the politics have changed” in the Trump era. In doing so, Newsom, widely expected to run for the White House in 2028, denies he is “normalizing” a climate of trolling in the public discourse.

Mamdani Coasts to Convincing Victory in NYC Mayoral Race
Self-proclaimed socialist Democrat nominee Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday decisively eclipsed his leading rival, independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, to win the election as the next mayor of New York City. With 91% of the vote in, Mamdani had a 50.4-41.6% edge over the former Democrat governor. Longshot Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa was a distant third at 7.1%.
Democrats Dominate Gubernatorial Races in NJ, Virginia
Democrats on Tuesday captured both closely watched governor’s races in the off-year elections, and neither contest was close. In New Jersey, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) routed Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli. Sherrill was up by a 56.2-43.2% advantage over Ciattarelli with 95% of ballots counted. Ciattarelli had hoped to harness indications that strongly blue New Jersey was in play in 2025, but that did not materialize.
Newsom’s Redistricting Initiative Easily Passes in California
A day of good news for Democrats continued on the West Coast as California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s ballot initiative to allow congressional redistricting in the Golden State was approved in overwhelming fashion. The referendum was crafted as a response to similar redistricting efforts that will boost Republican numbers in Texas. It may add as many as five US House seats for Democrats.
