diaspora

1. a group of people who have been scattered and live outside their traditional or ancestral homeland; a scattering of people with a common culture or ethnic background

2. often used to refer to the Jewish Diaspora. The Jews scattered from their native land after Judah was conquered by the Babylonians in ancient times. Now, the term also refers to Jews who live outside Israel
