Originally, referred to a group of people who spoke the Indo-Iranian languages, part of the larger Indo-European language family. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the term was misappropriated by racists and nationalists, particularly the Nazis, to describe a supposed “master race” of non-Jewish Caucasians.
